在教室

The opportunities that are given to students in Chinese class set them up to succeed in colleges and careers, and many Chinese class alumni have been able to go on to continue their education
in the language in college and even in Mainland China and Taiwan.

China Night
中国之夜

The Chinese program is known for its annual event, China Night, or 中国之夜 (zhong guo zhi ye) where students showcase and demonstrate what they have learned about the Chinese culture and language. Examples of things students can showcase are calligraphy, music, food, etc...

Taiwanese Pen-Pals
台湾笔友

The Taiwanese pen-pals from Taipei Municipal Zhong-Lun High School communicate with our Chinese students through a google document. They will ask questions in English that will be responded to in English by someone from our program, while students in the Chinese class here will ask questions in Chinese for the Taiwanese students to respond to in their native language. This allows a fair trade of knowledge. In Taiwan they use traditional characters so Chinese students here are required to learn both simplified and traditional versions of the characters.

Ex: 我爱我的中文课 (simplified)

      我愛我的中文課    (traditional)

Quizzes, Daily Journal, and Stroke Order Practice
小考,日记,和笔顺

Every week, students are given a stroke order practice sheet (笔顺 bi shun) with 10 new characters to learn. After completing the stroke order practice the class takes a quiz (小考 xiao kao) to test what they learned.  Every day, students will fill out their journal or diary (日记 ri ji) to practice building relevant sentences with what they have learned that week.
